PSP owners could soon be able to download PSP games directly to their game consoles, as Sony considers a native store for Playstation Portable.
“Having a native store on the portable is something we’re looking into,” said PSP brand manager John Koller.
PSP fans have been asking for a PSP specific store for a long time, and until the launch of the PlayStation Store for PC in November 2007, PSP users required a PS3 in order to access the PlayStation Store to download PSP games, demos, themes and videos.
The PlayStation Store for PC, however, isn’t good enough, because it can’t be directly accessed with a PSP.
During E3, Sony suggested gamers could soon use a single ID for both PSP and PS3, and by the sound of it a native PSP store for users to grab fresh content is also part of its plan. Of course, PSP gamers will also need somewhere to store the games. PSP HDD maybe?
Koller also mentioned the rise of more content for the PlayStation Store. He said to “keep an eye in the next few months” for new, unannounced games and media to make their way to the store.
Earlier this year, they also announced that the PS3 could be used to export Blu-ray movies for viewing on the PSP.
So now the question would be whether they’ll redesign the PSP, or try to make it into the truly next generation of the handheld console.
