Sony has just unveiled Go!View, a joint project between PlayStation and Sky which is the first official video download service for PSP in Europe.
It’s been designed to allow PSP owners access to a wealth of video content including TV shows, movies and sports on the go.
“Go!View will provide a wealth of programming from the worlds of entertainment, comedy, sport and movies for PSP owners to enjoy in addition to their usual gaming experience,” says Sony.
Presumably because of the PSP’s pretty weak Wi-Fi connection, a PC is still a necessary part of the equation, so content will be downloaded first to PC, but will organized into a sensible PSP-friendly format.
Content downloaded can be arranged into your own TV schedule, according to the company.
There’s no word on whether you’ll be able to download shows through Wi-Fi while you’re out and about, or whether live TV will be included too.
And now the catch: it’s going to cost you, of course. No prices were offered, but you’ll have the choice of pay-per-view or subscription options.
The PSP is continuously receiving new content and becoming a very versatile system, even without considering the many hacks and homebrew applications.
The service will be launching this summer. Precise dates and any details we get on what content is available we’ll let you know as soon as we hear.
